About the Project

The third phase of the DFNet Project aims to establish an international network of experts dedicated to addressing the impact of climate change on tropical fruit production and contributing to mitigation strategies for smallholder farmers in the Asia-Pacific region. International collaboration and information sharing are essential to tackle climate change and food security challenges. This will be achieved through project workshops and information platform that enable stakeholders to learn from one another, strengthen regional and international partnerships, and collectively develop innovative solutions. By facilitating cross-border cooperation, the project can leverage diverse expertise, resources, and perspectives, ultimately fostering more effective responses to climate change impacts on tropical fruit production. The information platform of the 3rd phase DFNet will highlight the climate change impacts on tropical fruit production and continue to collect and disseminate the priority themes included in the Phase I and II.

Overall Goal: Develop adaptive strategies and technologies to mitigate potential risks from climate change and enhance resilience in tropical fruit production.

Objectives:

  • Form a consortium with individuals (officials and researchers) from governments and research institutes interested in tropical fruit industry development, knowledge sharing, and contributing to climate change mitigation strategies in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Organize and facilitate project workshops, including meetings, forums, field trips, and field demonstrations in Taiwan and partner countries.
  • Collect and disseminate information addressing climate change mitigation.
  • Collect and disseminate information on tropical fruit value chain including production, pests and diseases management, postharvest handling, global/regional markets, value addition, consumption and nutrition.

Major Tasks:

  • Call for partnership: Engage stakeholders, including policymakers (government officers) and researchers, to participate in the project.
  • Organize project meetings (online) for partners to identify crops of interest and develop joint activities and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate partner workshops: Conduct 3-day field trips and round table discussion in partner countries.
  • Organize DFNet workshop: Host a 3-day field trip and round table discussion in Taiwan.
  • Collect news and latest publications related to the project themes and disseminate the information through emails, the project website, and social media platforms (YouTube and Facebook).

Partners:

  • TARI-Fengshan and DFNet members in Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam
