Avocado plant producing giant fruit set to hit nursery shelves

An Australian family has developed the Jala avocado, a new variety four times larger than standard avocados. Weighing between 700 grams and 1.2 kilograms, this variety is slow to oxidize, has a smaller seed-to-flesh ratio, and is praised for its buttery texture. The Jala variety originated from a seed planted 30 years ago by Ken Spackman, and after years of trials, it has proven distinct enough to be registered as a new variety. The trees yield well and grow up to 10 meters tall, making them promising for home gardens and commercial use.
