Malaysia owns Musang King brand for another decade, says Mat Sabu

Malaysia's Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) has renewed the Musang King durian’s local intellectual property protection until 2034. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu emphasized that this renewal secures Malaysia’s ownership of the iconic durian brand for another 10 years, preventing other countries from using the brand.
Musang King durian, renowned as the "king of fruits," brings lucrative returns, with Malaysia exporting fresh durians to China. Recently, 40 tons of fresh durian were exported, and demand in China remains high, with prices around RM350 per durian. Pahang is the largest producer, followed by Perak. Malaysia began exporting fresh durians to China in August 2024 after securing a deal with Chinese customs authorities.
