Good news! Australia stops anti-dumping investigation of Indonesian pineapple products

September 19, 2024 | VOI |

The Australian Government has halted its anti-dumping investigation into Indonesian pineapple products, potentially preserving $11.2 million in export value. The investigation, which covered consumer and food service pineapple, was terminated as of September 5, 2024.

Isy Karim, Director General of Foreign Trade at Indonesia's Ministry of Trade, expressed satisfaction with the decision, noting that Indonesia effectively demonstrated that its pineapple exports did not involve dumping. He highlighted that the volume of Indonesian pineapple imports accounted for less than 3% of Australia’s total imports, supporting the conclusion to end the investigation.

The termination allows Indonesia to enhance its pineapple exports to Australia, especially as investigations into pineapple from Thailand are ongoing. Natan Kambuno, Director of Trade Security at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, urged Indonesian exporters to capitalize on this opportunity to capture market share from competitors like the Philippines and Thailand.

Both officials emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Directorate of Trade Security and exporters in achieving this favorable outcome, which prevents the imposition of anti-dumping duties on Indonesian pineapple products. This development is seen as a significant advantage for Indonesia's agricultural exports to the Australian market.
