Building a brand for Hưng Yên lychees

September 19, 2024 | Produce Report |

Hưng Yên Province, known for its Phù Cừ lychee, is enhancing the brand of its prized fruit, especially the early-ripening variety 'vải trứng.' The province has established a concentrated lychee-growing area of 1,200 hectares, with 850 hectares dedicated to these varieties, yielding over 14,000 tons annually.

Phù Cừ lychees are prized for their heart-shaped fruits, mild sweetness, and early ripening, which occurs 10-15 days before other varieties. The egg lychee, larger and sweeter, has also gained popularity, making both types recognized by the Vietnamese Intellectual Property Office and classified as 4-star OCOP products.

To boost the industry, the Phù Cừ District People's Committee organizes trade conferences and provides infrastructure support, such as road improvements and agricultural training. These initiatives help farmers connect with buyers and expand production.

Despite this year's lower yield, prices remain stable, with early-ripening lychees selling for about VNĐ20,000-25,000 per kilogram and egg lychees priced higher at VNĐ120,000-150,000. Local cooperatives focus on maintaining stable pricing and organic practices to enhance market value.

Upcoming events like the 'Hung Yen Lychee Fair' aim to facilitate connections between producers and traders, helping expand markets and reduce dependency on single buyers. The government's support for key agricultural products will further strengthen the province's fruit industry.
