Industry level life cycle assessment of Australian avocado production

Hort Innovation, in partnership with Lifecycles, is conducting an environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) on Australian avocados to enhance sustainability. This study aims to provide environmental performance metrics, pinpoint industry hotspots, and guide sustainability strategies by focusing on greenhouse gas emissions and water use impacts. Following ISO14044 standards, the LCA will deliver data on individual and industry-wide scales, helping growers and industry associations adopt informed, sustainable practices. Supported by the Avocado R&D levy and Australian Government funds, this two-year project will underpin sustainability efforts and align with growing environmental reporting requirements.
