At the National Harumanis Mango Conference 2024, Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu stressed the need for prioritizing research and development to enhance the competitiveness of Harumanis mangoes. He emphasized the importance of improving genetics, crop management, and pest control to sustain quality and productivity amid climate change challenges. Mohamad urged collaboration among government agencies, research institutions, and farmers, highlighting the role of smart agricultural technology in boosting production and maintaining high quality.

The conference showcased the significance of Harumanis mango cultivation, not only for its premium taste but also as a vital economic resource for regions like Perlis. The state’s production this year is estimated at 2,022 tons, valued at RM46.5 million, benefiting 2,693 farmers and positively impacting local economies through related sectors like tourism and hospitality.

Organized by the Perlis state government and KPKM, the conference attracted 501 participants, including mango growers and researchers. Fifteen working papers were presented, promoting knowledge sharing and insights into further developing the Harumanis mango industry, with plans to expand cultivation to other states.
