Researchers from ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute, India, conducted a review study on the production technology of dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp.), a high-value crop from the Cactaceae family known for its nutritional benefits, stress resilience, and potential for significant economic returns. The primary species cultivated globally include Hylocereus undatus, H. megalanthus, and H. polyrhizus. Despite the increasing popularity and cultivation of dragon fruit, comprehensive and detailed information on optimized agronomic practices is limited. This review aims to fill that gap by compiling current knowledge on advanced production techniques.
Key practices covered in the study include pruning, training, application of plant growth hormones, and other horticultural interventions aimed at enhancing fruit quality and yield. By aggregating findings from available literature, the study provides a practical and detailed resource for both researchers and growers, emphasizing the importance of adopting improved techniques for efficient cultivation. The review offers a holistic view of dragon fruit production, contributing to the development of standardized cultivation protocols that can boost productivity and profitability.
