APHIS Authorizes the Importation of Hass Avocados from Guatemala into the United States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has authorized the importation of fresh Hass avocados from Guatemala. After thorough research, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) determined that risks related to pests and diseases can be mitigated through a systems approach, including registration of packinghouses and production areas. This decision, effective November 8, 2024, will allow the safe import of commercial-grade avocados. APHIS aims to protect U.S. agriculture and natural resources, supporting efforts to open and maintain international markets for agricultural products.
