Thailand is enhancing policies to ensure high-quality and safe fruits and vegetables for both domestic consumption and export. A meeting for longan packers in Chanthaburi emphasized meeting international safety standards, particularly for exports to China, which has increased inspections for pests and pesticide residues. In 2024, 103 longan packing houses in Eastern Thailand are registered to meet China's requirements, with strict adherence to protocols, including sulphur dioxide treatment and pest inspections. The Eastern region exported 54,738 tons of longan in 2024, valued at 2.42 billion baht. Packing houses must comply with regulations to avoid import suspensions. Exports are expected to rise significantly from November 2024 to January 2025.
