Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a one-day training program on dragon fruit cultivation for 20 Horticulture Development Officers (HDOs) under the National Horticulture Mission. Held on December 18, 2024, the program aimed to equip participants with advanced technical knowledge to promote dragon fruit farming among Punjab's farmers.

Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, Principal Fruit Scientist, highlighted dragon fruit's global demand, nutritional properties, and health benefits, branding it a "superfruit." He stressed the need for technical expertise due to its high initial investment and specialized cultivation requirements. He urged the officers to actively disseminate scientific knowledge to enhance productivity and quality.

Dr. (Ms) Sanjula Sharma elaborated on the fruit's biochemical properties, emphasizing its antioxidant-rich red pulp and seeds containing essential fatty acids. Dr. (Ms) Trina Adhikary discussed dragon fruit cultivation’s status and prospects in Punjab, alongside post-harvest handling and processing methods.

Disease and pest management strategies were addressed by Dr. Harpreet Singh and Dr. Sandeep Singh. Participants also visited PAU’s experimental dragon fruit plantation at the Fruit Research Farm. Through interactive discussions, they shared challenges faced by farmers and explored solutions to promote sustainable dragon fruit cultivation in the region.
