Vietnam hopes to export fresh passion fruit to US next year

Vietnam is negotiating passion fruit exports to the U.S., targeting $50-100 million annually, after successful deals with Australia. Currently, Vietnam cultivates 9,500 hectares of passion fruit, yielding 190,000 tons yearly, with 80% exported. The nation exported $222 million worth of passion fruit (fresh and frozen) in 2023, with Europe as the largest market for frozen products. Additionally, Vietnam is working to export lychees to South Korea.
Vietnam exports 19 fresh fruits, including dragon fruit, jackfruit, mango, and durian, to major markets like China, the U.S., Japan, and Australia. Its vegetable and fruit exports surged by 28%, reaching $6.6 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, and are projected to hit $7.2 billion by year-end, a record. China remains the largest importer, accounting for 66.5% of these exports.
