Anshul Mishra, a computer science engineering graduate, chose to return to his village in Uttar Pradesh to pursue sustainable farming. Transforming a barren one-acre plot, Anshul adopted dragon fruit farming after researching its high yield and long-term profitability. He started with 1,600 Red Moroccan saplings and implemented innovative techniques like wall farming to maximize space and efficiency.
Dragon fruits, which thrive with minimal irrigation and are resistant to extreme weather, yield up to 30 quintals per acre annually. Selling at Rs 250 per kilogram, Anshul generates Rs 4-5 lakh per acre from fruit sales and Rs 18 lakh yearly from his nursery. His approach, named the "Chilaua Model," exemplifies sustainable and innovative agriculture.
Anshul’s produce is in high demand in local markets and is often used as gifts, including for officials and weddings. Recognized for his efforts, he has inspired others by demonstrating that farming exotic crops can be profitable and environmentally friendly.
With a one-time investment and the use of natural fertilizers, Anshul emphasizes the importance of taking risks and innovating in agriculture. His success highlights the potential of sustainable farming to overcome challenges posed by traditional crop systems and climate change.
