MoALI invites bidding for pineapple export to China

January 10, 2025 | Global New Light Of Myanmar |

Myanmar has reopened pineapple exports to China under a Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Protocol agreement after a four-year halt. Companies must submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) by February 28, 2025. Pineapples from northern and southern Shan State will be exported via sea trade, replacing the previous cross-border trade halted in 2019.

Growers must comply with good agricultural practices, quality management, and pest control measures to meet Chinese regulations. Inspections will focus on pests like spiraling whitefly, mealybugs, and fungal pathogens. Initial inspection rates are set at 2% of export volume, reducing to 1% after two pest-free years.

China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) requires a list of approved farms and factories, ensuring adherence to strict packing and phytosanitary standards. This milestone is expected to revitalize Myanmar’s pineapple industry, offering new market opportunities and boosting export potential.
