Dragon fruit prices in Tiền Giang Province remain high after the Lunar New Year due to strong demand from China and domestic markets. Farmers are harvesting from 4,000 hectares, producing around 30,000 tons in the off-season.
Chợ Gạo District, the province’s largest dragon fruit-growing area, spans 6,600 hectares with an annual output of 180,000 tons. Of this, 2,200 hectares meet VietGAP standards and over 300 hectares comply with GlobalGAP. The district holds 101 export codes, allowing access to markets such as China, South Korea, the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
To boost sustainable growth, authorities are promoting official export channels, training farmers in VietGAP and GlobalGAP techniques, and supporting cooperatives to enhance value and overcome trade barriers. Tiền Giang Province aims to expand its GAP-certified dragon fruit cultivation from 2,300 hectares to 3,600 hectares this year. With 8,500 hectares dedicated to dragon fruit, mostly red-fleshed varieties, the province produces over 255,000 tons annually for export.
