Davao firm gains approval for historic durian export to China

February 17, 2025 | Sun Star |

Davao-based Maylong Enterprises Corporation has become the first Filipino company approved by China’s General Administration of Customs to export frozen durian meat and paste. On February 11, 2025, the company shipped 300 boxes of frozen durian paste and 1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat to Nansha District, Guangzhou, valued at P8.2 million. The shipment meets China’s strict import standards and is expected to arrive by February 18.

During the send-off ceremony, officials praised this milestone as a boost for the Philippine durian industry, opening new global market opportunities. The Department of Agriculture highlighted the hard work of farmers and exporters, noting that Davao durian previously entered the Chinese market with 28 metric tons of fresh durian in April 2023.

Durian Exporters Association President Larry Miculob emphasized durian’s economic significance, generating revenue and jobs while strengthening sustainable agricultural practices. Bureau of Plant Industry officials credited durian growers for meeting export regulations, calling this achievement a win for the entire Philippine durian sector.

The Philippines, the world’s fourth-largest durian exporter, sends 89 percent of its exports to China, further cementing its position in the global durian trade.
