Taiwan extends mandatory inspection on Vietnamese durian imports
February 17, 2025 | Viet Nam News |
Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has extended its 100 percent inspection policy on Vietnamese fresh durian imports until April 30, ensuring food safety compliance. This follows last year’s policy, which began in August after four shipments failed to meet standards within six months.
Vietnamese durian exporters must now enhance self-regulation, with importers required to conduct internal inspections and maintain compliance records. Businesses must immediately recall products and notify authorities if health risks are detected.
China has also strengthened its regulations, requiring all Vietnamese and Thai durian shipments to be certified free of Auramine O (Basic Yellow 2 – BY2), an industrial dye. Customs will conduct further tests to ensure compliance.
Additionally, the European Union has increased inspection rates on Vietnamese durian exports from 10 percent to 20 percent due to pesticide residue violations.
With major markets enforcing stricter food safety regulations, Vietnamese durian exporters face increasing pressure to meet global standards and maintain export viability.
