California’s avocado market in 2025 looks promising, with an expected crop of 365 to 375 million pounds. This is similar to 2024’s yield but under better-prepared marketing conditions. Early harvesting in January, due to lower Mexican supply and high prices, resulted in a historic start to the season, with over 20 million pounds sold in six weeks. Industry leaders predict strong demand and favorable prices, especially during peak promotional periods like Cinco de Mayo and Fourth of July.
Organic avocados are gaining momentum, with 2024’s volume up 19 percent from 2023. Retailers see organics as a key growth area, as organic avocado shoppers spend significantly more annually than conventional buyers.
Mexico’s lower-than-expected spring volume should benefit California growers, maintaining high prices through April, May, and June. However, uncertainty remains over potential tariffs on Mexican avocados. Although recently suspended, these tariffs could disrupt pricing and supply if reintroduced.
Overall, the California avocado industry anticipates a successful year, driven by early market entry, planned promotions, strong organic sales, and steady demand. The industry remains cautious of external factors, particularly tariffs, which could quickly impact prices and consumer behavior if imposed again.
