On International Women’s Day, Odisha’s Saptasajya Agro Producer Company exported 1 metric ton of premium green papaya to London, marking a significant achievement for women farmers. Supported by Odisha’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, APEDA, and Palladium Consulting India, this was the state’s first green papaya shipment to the UK. The virtual flag-off ceremony highlighted the collaboration’s success and recognized the nutritional value, flavor, and cost-competitiveness of Odisha’s green papayas in international markets.
APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev announced that Odisha’s agricultural exports have seen a 40% increase in price realization for farmers. Plans are in place to expand fresh and organic produce exports. Odisha’s horticulture director, Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, emphasized developing a roadmap to boost agri-exports, while MSME Secretary Bibhuti Bhushana Dash noted Odisha’s diversification beyond metal exports to agricultural produce.
Palladium Consulting’s CEO Amit Patjoshi praised the role of FPOs and farmers in achieving export success, with past shipments including Amrapali mangoes. Palladium has helped FPOs export 50 metric tons of fresh produce internationally, boosting farmers’ incomes by 40-62%.
With growing demand for Odisha’s mangoes and vegetables abroad, efforts are underway to scale up exports, ensuring sustainable growth and global market access for local farmers.
