Alphonso mango farmers struggle as heat waves slash yield

Rising temperatures and heat waves have drastically reduced Alphonso mango yields in Maharashtra’s Konkan region, with some farmers reporting up to a 75% decline. The absence of a proper winter, critical for flowering, and excessive fruit shedding due to heat stress have severely impacted production. Despite higher mango prices, farmers face significant losses because of increased production and transportation costs. Experts predict a delayed and shortened mango season, with limited supply expected to reach markets only between April and mid-May.
