May 05, 2025 | Fresh Fruit Portal |

The U.S. mango market is seeing strong growth in 2025, with a notable increase in shipments from key exporting countries, especially Guatemala and Nicaragua. Mexico remains the largest supplier, contributing over 26.5 million boxes this season, with a weekly shipment of 3.1 million boxes. Guatemala and Nicaragua have shipped approximately 2.8 million and 580,000 boxes respectively, while the Dominican Republic has sent over 655,000 boxes.

Two main mango varieties dominate the U.S. market: Tommy Atkins (71% of shipments) and Ataulfo/Honey (23%). Other varieties like Haden, Kent, Mingolo, Manila, Nam Doc Mai, and Thai are also available in limited quantities. Size classifications vary, with Ataulfo/Honey sorted into large (size 16 and above) and small (size 18 and below), and round mangoes into extra large (size 7+), large (sizes 8–10), and small (size 12 and below).

From early May (Week 18) through the end of May (Week 22), mango shipments to the U.S. are expected to be 19% higher than in the same period last year. Year-over-year growth projections show an 8% increase from Mexico, 23% from Guatemala, and an 87% surge from Nicaragua, indicating robust demand and expanding production in the U.S. mango market.
