Ministry to boost fruit farm aid amid weather woes
May 25, 2025 | Taipei Times |
Taiwan’s Agriculture and Food Agency plans to expand greenhouse and screen house cultivation to help fruit farmers cope with extreme weather impacts. Fruit prices, including pineapples, guavas, and bananas, have risen by 30% due to typhoons and cold fronts that disrupted harvests. To support farmers, the agency will increase subsidies by 50–65% depending on the region and offer low-interest agricultural loans. It will also ease crop eligibility restrictions. Additional measures include enhancing cold-chain logistics to reduce post-harvest losses, processing surplus fruit into wine and value-added products, and promoting contract farming for exports.
