Copra procurement center to be established in TN's Dharmapuri

Coconut farmers in Dharmapuri praised plans for a copra procurement center, which could boost profits and stabilize coconut production. With over 17,500 acres under cultivation, farmers currently sell coconuts at low prices to private buyers. They say a government-backed center would ensure fairer rates—Rs 120/kg versus Rs 80–90 in private markets. Farmers also face rising pest issues, drought, and fluctuating supply chains, making cultivation harder. They hope the center, once approved, will also offer training to improve quality. The horticulture department has requested state approval and plans to begin procurement once granted.
