Vietnamese mangosteen in high demand despite price difference with Thai variety

May 28, 2025 | Retail News |

Vietnamese mangosteen is captivating buyers across Asia with its sweet, fragrant flavor, despite being 50% more expensive than Thai imports. Prices in Ho Chi Minh City start at VND120,000 per kilogram, compared to VND90,000–100,000 for Thai varieties. Anticipation is high, with vendors seeing a surge in pre-orders. However, the main harvest is delayed, and farmers in major growing regions like Binh Duong and Dong Nai are facing significant setbacks due to unfavorable weather. Estimates suggest yield reductions of 40% to 70% compared to last year. The delay may extend the wait by two weeks, heightening consumer excitement for this luxurious tropical fruit.
