Pineapple dreams – TRIPURA bets on its QUEEN to go global

Tripura’s Queen pineapple, known for its unique taste and GI tag, is driving a horticultural push for global recognition. The state currently cultivates 11,862 hectares, yielding 1.74 lakh metric tons annually, with minimal chemical use. A proposed Rs 132 crore project aims to expand cultivation by 2,000 hectares, boosting farmer incomes and exports. Organically grown and nearly year-round harvested, the Queen variety has already reached markets in Dubai, Qatar, and Bangladesh. The initiative hopes to brand the pineapple internationally, elevating Tripura’s economy and agricultural identity. With growing interest, the fruit is poised to become a key export ambassador for India.
