Bangladesh’s mango exports rebounded in 2025, reaching 2,194 tons, a 66 percent rise from last year’s 1,321 tons. Improved fruit quality and better compliance with export standards boosted shipments, with Amrapali variety dominating at 80 percent of exports. Other varieties such as Himsagar, Langra, BARI-4, and Fajli also contributed.
Exports began in 2015, initially serving Bangladeshi communities abroad, but markets have since expanded to 26 countries. The UK led with 686 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (356 tons), Italy (264 tons), Kuwait (167 tons), and Qatar (163 tons). China recently joined with a small 5-tonne order. Despite the growth, exports represent only 0.1 percent of the global mango trade.
Key challenges include high air freight charges, limited infrastructure, and the absence of vapour heat treatment facilities, restricting competitiveness. Farmers and exporters argue that government support for modern processing plants, decentralised infrastructure, and contract farming is essential.
Bangladesh produces 2.4–2.5 million tons annually, mainly for domestic markets, but experts believe exports could rise to 8,000 tons with coordinated efforts. Global demand remains strong, particularly in the Middle East and Europe, and interest from Japan and Australia could expand future markets. With proper support, Bangladesh’s mango exports could grow substantially.
