Malaysia’s pineapple industry has experienced remarkable growth, with exports more than doubling over the past six months, according to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. As of October 2024, export volumes rose from 800 to 1,727 containers, reflecting the sector’s strong performance and expanding global demand.
Mohamad highlighted that this surge underscores the agricultural sector’s vast potential, particularly in generating higher income for farmers and strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global fruit market. He expressed optimism that pineapple exports will continue to grow in 2025, supported by the commitment of farmers, government agencies, and private industry players.
The minister also called on more Malaysians—especially young people—to engage in modern, technology-driven farming practices. He emphasized that adopting innovative agricultural methods not only enhances productivity and sustainability but also contributes to national food security and economic resilience.
The recent export success positions Malaysia’s pineapple industry as one of the country’s most promising agri-export sectors, benefiting from coordinated development programs, improved cultivation practices, and expanding international market access. Mohamad reaffirmed the government’s continued support to further boost exports and create more opportunities for smallholders and agripreneurs across the country.
