The Cambodian Mango Development Federation (CMDF), composed of farmers, processors, and sellers, was officially formed in October 2024 to address persistent challenges in the mango industry. The federation will help implement national policies, organize mango production, update sector data, and promote Cambodian mangoes internationally through exhibitions and trade events.
During the launch in Siem Reap, officials acknowledged major issues such as falling prices and insufficient processing facilities during peak harvests. Many mangoes are left to rot or converted into compost due to limited domestic demand and export disruptions. Farmers like Siv Mang from Siem Reap, who once earned 1,200 riel per kilogram, now receive only 300–400 riel, making production unsustainable. Border issues with Thailand have further restricted exports to Malaysia, worsening the situation.
Despite these setbacks, the Ministry of Agriculture reports that mango output in 2024 reached 2.2 million tons over 150,000 hectares, contributing over $500 million annually to Cambodia’s economy. Officials stress the need for modern agricultural communities and improved processing capacity to ensure stable markets and profitability. The CMDF aims to attract technical and financial support, expand value-added processing, and strengthen both domestic and export markets to sustain the mango sector’s growth.
