Avocado market splits: US sees volume growth, Europe and China drive up prices

September 16 2025 | Fresh Fruit Portal |

According to Avobook’s week 37 report, the global avocado market showed mixed performance in early September 2025. In the United States, avocado shipments rose slightly to 1,563 truckloads — a three percent weekly and 18 percent annual increase. Mexico remained the leading supplier, providing 76 percent of the total, followed by Peru (15 percent), California (8 percent), and Colombia (1 percent). Despite higher volumes, US avocado prices have declined since week 30, with large fruit sizes dropping by up to 14 percent.

In Europe, avocado imports reached 895 containers, a 37 percent year-on-year rise, led by Peru, which supplied 73 percent of total shipments. However, the stronger demand drove prices up sharply: small avocados in Rotterdam rose over 40 percent, and medium-sized fruit in Spain increased by up to 30 percent.

Meanwhile, China’s avocado imports fell 24 percent year-on-year to 26 containers, reflecting tight supply. Despite the decline, prices surged by over 50 percent for larger fruits, surpassing 2024 levels for the first time since week 26.

Overall, the avocado market reflects regional contrasts — oversupply and falling prices in the US, strong demand and price increases in Europe, and tightening supply with premium prices in China.
