Tainan has signed an export agreement to supply 100 tons each of Irwin mangos and Golden Diamond (Tainung No. 17) pineapples to South Korea in 2026, marking a significant step in the city’s expanding presence in global fruit markets. Mayor Huang Wei-che, who witnessed the signing, said the deal resulted from sustained efforts, including multiple meetings with South Korean buyers and participation in the Seoul Food Expo for two consecutive years. He emphasized that Tainan’s fruits are distinguished by strong flavor and supported by reliable cold-chain logistics that help maintain freshness during shipping.
Agricultural Bureau Director General Li Fang-lin said the agreement reflects the success of Tainan’s international marketing strategy. She added that the city will assist producers in meeting South Korea’s strict safety and quality requirements. Tainan’s involvement in the Seoul Food Expo began in 2024, when its first “Tainan Pavilion” generated NT$10 million in fruit orders. The following year, an expanded showcase of more than 50 agricultural and fishery products produced nearly NT$300 million in business deals.
Irwin mangos, also known locally as Ai-wen, are sweet, juicy, and low in fiber, making them Taiwan’s top mango export. Golden Diamond pineapples have golden flesh and mild sweetness and dominate Taiwan’s pineapple exports.
