Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) caused severe agricultural losses across the Bicol Region, with total damage reaching PHP3.70 billion, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA-5). Coconut farms were the hardest hit, with 128,761 hectares affected and 3,398 hectares completely destroyed, resulting in PHP1.18 billion in losses. Over 125,000 coconut farmers were impacted. Abaca production also suffered major setbacks, with 54,205 hectares damaged and losses estimated at PHP1.03 billion, affecting nearly 24,000 abacaleros.
Camarines Sur recorded the highest provincial damage at PHP1.5 billion, followed by Catanduanes with PHP1 billion. In response, the DA has prepared PHP1.2 billion in intervention support, including seeds, fertilizers, vegetable seeds, garden tools, and hauling trucks. Additional assistance includes PHP25 million under the SURE Loan program, offering PHP25,000 loans to each affected farmer, and PHP7.1 million in insurance payouts from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
To help stabilize food access, the National Food Authority also began selling PHP20 rice worth PHP19.5 million through provincial offices and accredited outlets. Overall, recovery efforts aim to support affected farmers and restore agricultural production in the devastated areas.
