Imported Australian mangoes sell for nearly $23 per kilogram in Vietnam

November 18, 2025 | VnExpress |

Australian Kensington Pride mangoes are being sold in Vietnam for around VND600,000 (US$22.75) per kilogram—more than seven times the price of the same variety grown domestically. Retailers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi say high air-freight, storage, and cold-chain requirements significantly raise costs. Each imported mango weighs 500–600 grams and is praised for its firm flesh and sweetness.

Despite the premium price, the variety is widely cultivated in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, where it sells for only VND20,000–25,000 per kilogram at the farm level and about VND80,000 in stores. In Australia, Kensington Pride mangoes retail for AUD6.7–8 per kilogram at major supermarkets.

Vietnam’s rising imports reflect growing demand for premium fruits. In the first nine months of the year, the country imported over US$100 million worth of fruits and vegetables from Australia, a 27% year-on-year increase. Mangoes, cherries, grapes, mandarins, and oranges are among the most imported items, though most sell at high prices in Vietnam.
