Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che visited France to promote the city’s fresh fruit and processed food products and explore opportunities to expand exports into Europe. During his visit to Rungis International Market, one of the world’s largest wholesale food markets, Huang met local fruit traders and Taiwan-linked food distributors with support from Taiwan’s representative office in France.
Huang highlighted Tainan’s year-round fruit production and brought fresh samples to demonstrate quality. French traders reportedly praised Tainan pineapples and guavas after initial imports, noting their strong potential to compete with products from Latin America and Southeast Asia.
In addition to fresh produce, Huang showcased a variety of processed foods from Tainan, including shrimp chips, dried fruits, buckwheat tea, noodles, and other snacks and beverages. These products attracted interest due to their alignment with European health trends and their convenience for storage and transport.
The visit aimed to strengthen trade ties, raise the profile of Tainan’s agricultural products in Europe, and open new market opportunities through Rungis, a key distribution hub serving food traders across France and beyond.
