Tainan has successfully exported locally grown jujubes to Singapore for the first time, marking a new milestone for the city’s agricultural exports. The initial shipment was organized by a local fruit and vegetable production cooperative, sourcing jujubes mainly from a Nanxi District orchard run by a young farmer, alongside passion fruit and guava from other Tainan producer groups.
According to the Tainan City Government, the fruits have entered high-end retail channels in Singapore, including Takashimaya department stores, helping enhance the international visibility and brand image of Tainan agriculture. The Agriculture Bureau described the project as a model of effective collaboration among farmers’ associations and cooperatives.
Tainan jujubes are known for their high sweetness and delicate texture, supported by favorable climate conditions and cultivation techniques. To meet premium market requirements, the fruit is air-freighted weekly using cold-chain logistics to maintain freshness and quality.
Mayor Huang Wei-che said the exports provide better income for farmers and reflect Tainan’s ability to supply fresh fruit year-round. He hopes seasonal exports of pineapples, mangoes, pomelos, jujubes and Hami melons will continue expanding into overseas markets.
