Tainan mayor taps Malaysia networks for fruit exports
January 26, 2026 | Taiwan News |
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che visited Malaysia to promote Tainan fruit exports by leveraging existing Taiwanese business networks and retail channels. Ahead of the Lunar New Year, he introduced Tainan jujubes to Taiwanese business communities, aiming to tap established distribution systems to reach more consumers.
Huang also met Taiwan’s representative to Malaysia to seek institutional and diplomatic support, strengthening on-the-ground cooperation. City officials said the strategy builds on earlier success with Tainan mangoes, which gained consumer trust through partnerships with major Malaysian supermarket chains. Jujubes are now being positioned as the next flagship product, chosen for their sweetness and crisp texture that suit local preferences.
The promotion targets not only Malaysia but also the wider Singapore–Malaysia market. During the trip, Huang and his delegation met business associations to better understand consumer trends and logistics requirements. The city government said it will continue working with overseas Taiwanese firms to expand export scale, raise international visibility of Tainan produce, and create new market opportunities for local farmers.
