February 03, 2026 | The Take Out |
The Philippines remained the world’s second-largest pineapple exporter for the third straight year in 2025, trailing only Costa Rica and ranking first in Asia, according to the FAO. Philippine pineapple exports grew about 14% to 775,028 metric tons, continuing an upward trend since 2023. The FAO attributed this growth to investments by the Department of Agriculture, including fertilizers, packaging support, and pest management training, which boosted yields.
China was the largest market, with shipments rising 19% due to weather-related declines in China’s domestic production. Japan and South Korea were also key destinations, accounting for 36% and 13% of exports, respectively, while shipments to Japan increased 27% year on year.
The Philippines’ strong performance aligned with global pineapple trade trends, which expanded around 5% to 3.38 million metric tons in 2025. This growth was largely driven by supply shortages in Costa Rica, caused by excessive rainfall, high temperatures, planting delays, and increased pest pressure. Global pineapple imports, however, remained relatively stable at about 3.2 million tons.
