Season's first mangoes arrive at local markets

February 03, 2026 | The Time of India |

Early mangoes from neighboring states have arrived in Goa markets, with varieties like Neelam, Ratnagiri Alphonso and Sindoora selling at premium prices. Traders say this marks the start of the season, with supply expected to increase in coming weeks. While early varieties are attracting buyers, consumers are especially anticipating the GI-tagged mancurad mango, though farmers have dismissed social media claims of extremely high prices as exaggerated. Growers are optimistic about the season due to favorable weather conditions, including a dry spell, cooler winter temperatures and the absence of unseasonal rains, which supported strong flowering. Compared with last year, cooler winter days are believed to have further improved flowering across orchards. With higher yields expected and arrivals set to rise, vendors anticipate better availability and potentially more affordable prices for consumers as the season progresses.
