Taiwan's dragon fruit, jujubes, and lychees approved for export to the EU

February 26, 2026 | Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium |

Taiwan has received approval from the European Commission (DG SANTE) to export dragon fruit, jujubes, and lychees to the EU, expanding on last year’s successful entry of guavas and mangoes. This development marks a significant step in strengthening Taiwan–EU agricultural trade.

Exports must comply with the EU’s plant health regulations under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072, particularly Annex XI, and be accompanied by official phytosanitary certificates. However, due to possible administrative delays and varying requirements among EU Member States, exporters are advised to confirm specific quarantine conditions with the destination country before shipping. If uncertainties arise, Taiwan’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency (APHIA) will assist in clarifying requirements.

This market opening highlights the global competitiveness of Taiwan’s high-quality fruits and the strong international recognition of its plant quarantine system. APHIA also reminds exporters to ensure strict inspection and selection processes, guaranteeing that shipments are free from pests to meet EU standards and ensure smooth customs clearance.
