Papaya prices in northern Espírito Santo, Brazil, rose in early February due to reduced supply caused by heavy rainfall affecting flowering and harvests. Hawaii papaya prices exceeded R$4.00/kg, reaching their highest levels since mid-2025. However, high prices slowed sales, leading to a decline in the second half of the month, with average prices settling at R$3.24/kg.
In contrast, Formosa papaya prices initially dropped higher supply but rebounded later as demand improved, ending the month with a 29% increase. Despite fluctuations, Hawaii papaya remained more expensive overall.
Looking ahead, if consumer preference for Formosa papaya continues, price differences between the two varieties may narrow in the coming months.
