Bac Ninh lychee output may drop by half amid weather challenges
March 30, 2026 | Vietnam net |
Lychee production in northern Vietnam is expected to decline by around 50% in 2026 due to unusually warm and humid weather during the critical flowering stage, which disrupted bud formation. Flowering rates are significantly lower than normal, though some well-managed orchards have achieved better results through proper techniques.
In response, authorities in Bac Ninh are strengthening production management, focusing on disease control, standardized cultivation practices, and strict compliance with export requirements. Measures include monitoring pests, encouraging biological inputs, and enforcing pesticide regulations.
Efforts are also being made to improve traceability and expand certified growing areas, with many farms already meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP, or organic standards. Despite lower output, the province aims to maintain product quality, support exports, and expand both domestic and international market access.
