Bengaluru's early aam affair
April 17, 2026 | Deccan Herald |
Mangoes have appeared early in Bengaluru markets this year, weeks ahead of the typical late-April season, likely due to rising temperatures and climate-related shifts in flowering patterns. Off-season production methods, including canopy management and growth regulators, have also contributed to early supply.
Despite increased availability, demand remains uneven, with established vendors and online platforms seeing stronger sales than smaller sellers. Wholesale markets report steady arrivals, but much of the fruit is still ripening, indicating the season has not yet peaked.
Prices are currently higher than last year, reflecting early-season supply conditions. Overall, the mango season appears to be starting earlier and becoming more variable due to both climate change and cultivation practices.
