Pineapple prices up despite China ban

Taiwan’s pineapple prices remain stable and higher than pre-2021 levels despite continued market pressure from China, which previously suspended imports citing pest concerns. The government says domestic demand, seasonal religious events, and diversified export markets have helped support prices.

Since the ban, Taiwan has expanded exports to countries including Japan, Canada, South Korea, and potentially the US. Export performance to Japan has remained steady despite shipping challenges and colder weather.

Officials emphasized ongoing efforts to diversify markets and reduce reliance on China. Meanwhile, Taiwan recently introduced pineapples to the Malaysian market, where initial shipments received strong consumer interest and rapid preorders.
