Malaysian mangosteen at the mercy of durian demand

Mangosteen prices in Malaysia have risen above durian prices due to reduced local production and increased durian cultivation. Many farmers have removed mangosteen trees to maximize conditions for durian production, leading to limited mangosteen supply and greater reliance on imports.
At the same time, durian prices have fallen sharply because of increased production and oversupply, with some varieties selling at very low prices and promotional discounts becoming common. Imported mangosteens remain cheaper, but local mangosteens continue to command premium prices due to their preferred taste and quality.
