Higher diesel rates set to push up tender coconut prices

Tender coconut prices have risen sharply this summer due to limited supply, strong demand, and increasing transport costs linked to higher diesel prices. Retail prices in the city have reached Rs 90–100 per coconut, while wholesale prices have also increased significantly.
Most coconuts are transported from southern India, making the market highly sensitive to fuel cost changes. Lower yields and labor shortages in harvesting have further reduced supply.
Vendors are concerned that continued price increases could reduce consumer demand, while some customers have already stopped purchasing coconuts because of affordability issues. Overall, rising production and transportation costs are placing pressure on both sellers and consumers.
