Thailand tightens durian standards in THB150bn export push

Thailand is strengthening durian quality standards to maintain competitiveness in global markets, particularly China. The government aims to boost durian export revenue beyond THB150 billion this year by improving food safety, traceability, and product credibility.

Authorities are addressing key concerns such as immature fruit, pest contamination, chemical residues, and misuse of export rights under a “four noes” policy. Measures include round-the-clock export facilitation, improved inspection systems, upgraded residue-testing laboratories, and stronger traceability through digital systems.

Officials emphasized that Thai durian’s success now depends not only on price but also on quality assurance and consumer confidence in international markets.
