Malaysia’s Penang durian growers have introduced a QR code tracking system to combat counterfeit durians and protect the reputation of premium Penang varieties. Each durian receives a QR tag that allows consumers to verify its origin and authenticity instantly using a smartphone.
The system stores orchard and verification information in an online database, with safeguards against duplication and misuse. The initiative aims to strengthen consumer confidence and ensure genuine Penang durians are clearly distinguished in the growing global market for premium durian products.
