Taiwan targets Europe with first shipment of premium fruits

June 04, 2026 | Radio Taiwan International |

Taiwan has exported mangoes, lychees, and dragon fruits to Europe for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of its fruit exports. The inaugural shipment, totaling six metric tons, was launched in Pingtung County and is destined for Paris’ largest wholesale market, where the fruits are expected to reach consumers within a few days.

Agriculture Minister Chen Jun-ji described the export as an important step toward establishing long-term market access for Taiwanese fruits in Europe. He noted that successful entry could create a pathway for additional Taiwanese fruit products to enter European markets in the future.

To support overseas expansion, Taiwan has strengthened its cold-chain logistics system in recent years, including post-harvest precooling, standardized packaging, quarantine treatments, and refrigerated transportation. These measures help maintain fruit quality throughout the export process.

The Ministry of Agriculture plans to continue improving production and logistics infrastructure while pursuing international market negotiations. The initiative aims to enhance the global visibility of Taiwan’s premium agricultural products and expand opportunities in high-value overseas markets.
