Yang Mao Commune in Dak Lak Province, Vietnam, has undergone a remarkable agricultural transformation over the past decade, replacing low-value corn and cassava cultivation with honey pineapple production. The crop has proven highly suited to the area’s soil, climate, and hilly terrain, offering higher yields, greater pest resistance, and significantly better economic returns.
Today, more than 3,500 hectares are dedicated to honey pineapple cultivation, making it one of the commune’s most important agricultural products. Farmers report substantial income improvements, with some households earning over VND100 million annually after costs. The stable earnings have enabled families to invest in education, improve living standards, and expand production.
Beyond fresh fruit sales, local residents are exploring value-added products such as pineapple jam, syrup, and wine, creating new opportunities for rural entrepreneurship. The pineapple industry has also contributed to poverty reduction, infrastructure improvements, and broader economic development across the commune.
To sustain growth, local authorities are working to strengthen market access, establish partnerships with buyers, and develop a distinctive brand for Yang Mao honey pineapples. The crop has become a key driver of prosperity and rural development in the region.
