Mangosteen prices plunge below $1/kg at farm gate amid bumper harvest

June 26, 2026 | vnExpress |

Mangosteen prices in southern Vietnam have fallen to their lowest levels in years due to abundant harvests and increased market supply. Farmers are selling mangosteens for around VND25,000 (US$0.95) per kilogram, while retail prices have also declined significantly.

Favorable weather has increased fruit production, with some growers reporting harvests about 20% higher than the previous year. However, the combination of lower prices and rising production costs, including fertilizer and labor, has reduced or eliminated growers’ profits.

Traders reported purchasing substantially larger volumes of mangosteens than last year as supplies increased. According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, favorable growing conditions have boosted yields not only for mangosteen but also for other major fruits, including durian, mango, dragon fruit, and avocado, contributing to oversupply in the market.
