Vinh Long scales up green-skinned pomelo farming for export

June 23, 2026 | Vietnam + |

Vinh Long province has achieved a milestone with the first shipment of green-skinned pomelos reaching premium supermarkets in Australia, expanding the fruit’s presence in high-value export markets. Together with growing exports to China and other destinations, the success is encouraging farmers to strengthen production standards and expand specialized cultivation areas.

Local growers are adopting VietGAP, organic practices, and market-specific production requirements to improve fruit quality, traceability, and food safety. Authorities are supporting the industry by distributing seedlings, promoting advanced cultivation techniques, and strengthening links between farmers, cooperatives, and exporters.

Green-skinned pomelo is a flagship crop in Vinh Long, covering about 13,800 hectares, with more than 10,000 hectares already in production. The province has established export production codes, earned multiple OCOP certifications, and expanded exports to markets including the European Union, the United States, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and Australia.

Going forward, Vinh Long aims to further develop the pomelo value chain by expanding cooperative-based production, improving market access, and ensuring sustainable growth through compliance with international quality and traceability standards.
